Fitness Recommendations

Players are encouraged to stay fit during the summer. Pre-season is not a time to gain conditioning. Players who enter the season out of shape will be at a big disadvantage. The whole team suffers when players are not in shape. If players arrive to pre-season in shape, we can focus on soccer. There will be a timed two-mile run on the first day of practice.

I encourage you to develop a summer fitness plan if you cannot attend summer workouts. Weight training is encouraged. Variations of sit-ups and push-ups can adequately substitute for some weight training if that is unavailable.

You should run two continuous miles at least twice per week. You should do varied sprints at least twice per week. At the beginning of summer, start off slower and with shorter distances if necessary. By mid-summer, you should be comfortable running two miles at a reasonable pace.
